Young Diego Poyet
1st start in the Premier League, and he had a terrific game. Admittedly he struggled with the pace a bit at 1st but worked his way into the game and got better as the game wore on.

It is a MASSIVE step up for the lad and he was thrown in at the deep end against one of the best sides in the country but he did not look out of place. Worth a mention that he didn't have our best midfielder(Kouyate) by his side either.

We have got a player on our hands here.

Well done son.

Herrera had 2 feet off the floor when he tackled Song.

Massive Poyet fan. Reads the game great. Interceptions, cover, blocks, timing tackles, ball retention. Basing this mainly on seeing him at Charlton last season

Re: Young Diego Poyet
Noble the kind of bloke who would help a youngster like Poyet, so is responsible at least in part for Poyet being what he is.

Well done, Mark Noble.

Did anybody notice the foul by the man u player in the lead up to rooney's goal?

Re: Young Diego Poyet
He struggled in the first 20mins with the pace and movement of some of the worlds best players. I thought he should have been tracking Rooney when he scored. I've no doubt Noble would have done.
For someone not that familiar with their teammates and probably nervous as hell, he did well. He needs games and to train in those positions with the players who will be playing there. I really think he has a bright future.

When you think he was in a midfield with two key players missing and covering runs from Di Maria, Rooney, Falcao and Van Persie. I recon he did okay.

I agree with Norf and Kaka

Re: Young Diego Poyet
As this is really about Noble, let’s talk about him.

We’re seeing this season just how good he is, now he has got players with pace and movement around and in front of him. For the last 2 years, he’s had Nolan & Carlton Cole as focal points of our attacks, so he hasn’t had a lot to work with, although it didn’t stop him being our best player last season, it has held him back.

Against Hull and especially Liverpool, with Downing centrally and two quick forwards constantly on the move looking for the ball, Noble has been able to properly dictate play, and control games. Kayoute with his driving runs and Downing with his dribbling have got the plaudits, but it’s Noble who controls games, and yes, HE IS A LOCAL LAD, which makes me appreciate him even more.

Re: Young Diego Poyet
I thought he was poor and looked nervous in the first 10-15 minutes but then grew into the game.

A team with Noble and/or Kouyate would have got a result on Saturday.

Re: Young Diego Poyet
I think he's an excellent player but I thought him and song were both poor Saturday and probably the reason we didn't push on and win the game.....
But we all know what this is about......we've had threads saying how great every central midfielder we've signed in the last 6 or 7 years from Diame to diarra all who turned out to be crap

Re: Young Diego Poyet
I don't think he was quite as good as you are trying to make out, but playing against Herrera and Di Maria is tough for anyone. Will be interesting to see how he gets on against QPR if he plays.

Re: Young Diego Poyet
I know this is an oh so subtle, predictable, big up every midfielder except a certain one, thread but I will respond in good faith.

Saturday, they came out attacking and what ever their other problems they have the tools to do that, so defensive it was going to be a big ask. Our set up was a good one to exploit their weaknesses but did expose some of ours on the day.

Even with that in mind, neither of the more withdrawn midfield two covered themselves in glory. For Poyet, it was a first start with a midfield partner he has probably not trained with a whole lot (Noble got injured the day before) so to struggle is understandable though still disappointing. Valencia and Song were the two players who's performances were most noticeably down from the previous game but for the latter the new, raw partner was probably part of it.

Back to Poyet specifically, he did struggle to get a hold of the game but did some things well and there were certainly signs that should make us optimistic.

He is fairly big and plays that way in terms of get into the passing lanes, which he did with increasing skill through the game I thought. Not overwhelmed physically from what I saw, which a good first step in this league.

Not the worst full debut I have seen that is for sure.

The game passed him by. Next week will give us a better idea.

Re: Young Diego Poyet
My attitude is that a debut away at Old Trafford for a 19yo is just something to get through & you'd hardly expect him to be running the show.
His interview on the OS shows he is taking it as a start and an incentive to work harder and improve.
If Noble is still out he may well play again on Sunday

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you think he should keep his place when Noble is fit.

Pleased to see him start and sends a good signal to kids like Borg and Oxford etc that we are a club where you can get in the first team when you are 19.
Maybe to a few languishing at the mega clubs too

Re: Young Diego Poyet
I'm going to be honest here, but I don't think he played very well. He wasn't terrible, and wasn't great. He looked a little out of his depth at times to me.

Tidy passer and that, loads of potential, I just think this is a massively over exagerrated opinion, purely and simply based on the fact you have an obsession about Noble, and cannot handle ever being wrong about him.

1. I thought he was poor.

2. They look a mid table side from what I've seen so far.

3. I like him though and am glad he's here.

4. You seem to have gone quiet on SONG since his assist?

Dropped for Nolan against QPR.
